Western tourists want to ‘marry a bowl of pho’ when coming to Vietnam

British tourist Ben Maguire fell in love with Ho Chi Minh City on his first visit, wanting to “marry a bowl of pho” and “write a love letter to a sandwich” to stay longer in the city.
Ben Maguire, a British freelance writer, came to Ho Chi Minh City at the end of February and shared his thoughts about the city, which became a hit on Vietnamese social media, attracting tens of thousands of interactions. The online community was delighted with Ben’s witty comments and fresh perspective on Ho Chi Minh City.
Ben said he was “lost” in Ho Chi Minh City alone for a week with an impromptu schedule. The city, in Ben’s perception, has a vibrant energy, great cuisine, and organized chaotic traffic, making wandering the streets an adventure. The British tourist admits to being the type of traveler who goes wherever he goes, to “see where the day will take him”.
During the trip, he searched for a few places on Google, saved a few places he needed to go, but always left room for surprises. This approach has led him to more delicious street food than expected, discovered “hidden” coffee shops and many moments where he just stood there, watched and enjoyed.
